How I stay healthy while running two fast-growing businesses (and how you can too)

This week, someone asked me how I manage to stay healthy, manage my wellbeing and stay grounded, while running two rapidly growing businesses.

My answer surprised them, and maybe it will surprise you too.

It’s not about doing more.  It’s about doing better.  I don’t believe in working long hours and burnout as a badge of honour.  My approach is rooted in clear priorities, solid support, and protecting my energy like it’s my most valuable asset, because it is.

I work with high-growth business owners every day, many of whom (when they first approach me) are working 60+ hours a week and feeling exhausted.  They often believe that building something great requires personal sacrifice.

But here’s the truth. You can lead powerfully without running yourself into the ground.

Hopefully I am living proof.

Here’s how I stay on top of my health, energy and mindset and how you can too:

  • Build a team you trust – I don’t try to be a superhero. My businesses grow because I’ve invested in a team that’s smart, capable, and empowered to lead.  Delegation isn’t optional; it’s essential
  • Systemise everything you can – From onboarding to daily operations, slick systems free up my brainpower for high-impact work and create consistency even when I’m not in the room
  • Fuel your body well – I eat for performance and high energy.  That doesn’t mean perfection, but it means being intentional.  What you put in is what you get out
  • Sleep is non-negotiable – No email, no meeting, no opportunity is worth compromising my rest.  My brain and my body both need to switch off and be fully energised
  • Schedule your own time first – My gym sessions and personal downtime go in the diary before anything else.  If it’s not booked, it won’t happen

If you’re a business owner burning the candle at both ends, know this; you don’t have to choose between success and sustainability.  You can have both, with the right mindset, structure and support.

This isn’t theory. it’s my reality and it can be yours too.  The more we lead by example, the more we give others permission to do the same.

I help my clients stay healthy and do more of what they love – mountain biking, gym, travel, family time, hiking etc.  I’m helping them to create a business where it still runs and grows, AND they can have the lifestyle they desire.
